TODD HILL and his ORCHESTRA has been entertaining listeners and dancers throughout the mid-south for twenty-five years. Founded while Hill was a student at Murray State University, the Orchestra has played at venues from the Mississippi Casinos, to Memphis’ Peabody Hotel, to the Hotel Irvin Cobb in Paducah, Nashville, St. Louis, Louisville and seemingly endless points between. The band’s members have shown remarkable staying power, with the vast majority of the players having been in the group more than fifteen years, a nd eight of its players having served more than twenty years! The band is a family, and they enjoy working together as is evidenced by their high-energy performances, where they often encourage each other vocally during their solos and ensemble passages.
Todd Hill and his Orchestra presents the absolute best music of the Swing Era with original arrangements of the great bands such as Glenn Miller, Duke Ellington, Count Basie and Benny Goodman, along with more modern interpretations of standards from the great American “songbook,” and the contrasting swinging and romantic vocals by the leader. Several of the present musicians (Jones, Bridges, Brown, Rein) studied under Hill’s tutelage. The Orchestra’s first compact disc release “Todd Hill and his Orchestra: Swingin’ and Singin’ Live! was released in 2007. The majority of the musicians are also full-time teachers and professors of music and church musicians as well. Hill credits the band’s longevity to their professional lives and deep friendships.
